Tamara Tunie, Tami Dixon and More Join Forces to Save a Stumbling Presidency

City Theatre is getting ready to open its 50th season with an election-season farce, featuring a cast of formidable women who together keep a fictional administration afloat.

Selina Fillinger’s POTUS or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive earned three Tony Award nominations in 2022, two for acting (Rachel Dratch and Julie White).

For City Theatre, the Seven Women are led by Tamara Tunie, a Pittsburgher and international stage and screen star and a member of the company’s board of directors. Joining her are other local theater favorites – Theo Allyn, Tami Dixon, Lara Hayhurst, Missy Moreno and Saige Smith – along with accomplished regional actress Amelia Pedlow.

The decidedly R-rated show is described as “an uproariously funny, feminist satire that lands in time for election season! A crude comment, a problematic paramour, and an unfortunate medical mess turn a PR nightmare into a global crisis – and it’s all dumped upon the seven women responsible for keeping the president presidential.”

POTUS is directed by Meredith McDonough, a former associate artistic director at Actors Theatre of Louisville for seven seasons.

The production, opening September 21, features a creative team comprised of Jackie Fox (lighting), Lindsay Jones (original music and sound design); Madison Michalko (costumes) and Chelsea M Warren (scenic design).
