Review: ‘Come From Away’ Pulsates With Neighborly Heart and Soul
FRONT PORCH GETS TO THE HEART AND SOUL OF ‘COME FROM AWAY’
Front Porch Theatricals’ second summer season offering is the first locally produced version of the 2017 Tony Award-nominated musical, with brilliant staging harnessing the chaotic energy and performances that dig deep into individuals whose lives were shaped by he 9/11 terrorist attacks, and the mostly hidden story of what happened next.
Review: Throughline Theatre’s Living News Festival, Where Fiction Tweaks the Truth
When truth is stranger than fiction, in a playwright’s hands, it can go a few steps further into bizarro world, or find a pathway to grounded reality. Such is the case of the third annual Living News Festival, a Throughline Theatre Company creation that distributes local news stories to six Pittsburgh playwrights, who each write a 10-minute play, ripe for production. She has been back since, but this memory spark delight. Even so, she began the night by saying “Hi Pittsburgh. I’m Patti LuPone,” as if we needed an introduction. Or, perhaps, the woman shimmering from within and wearing sparkly white, was just ready to get reacquainted.
