The summer theatre season is starting to wind down. Here are two ideas for something different for your wind down this weekend with the added bonus of free admission!
The CLO sponsored Show Tune Saturday Night wraps up its summer run Saturday night, the 25th, at the CLO Cabaret in Theatre Square. STSN is a mix of an open-mic songfest, shameless self-promotion, informal audition and project pitch with a crowd of singers, actors, musicians, directors, and producers. Bring your own sheet music or browse their library. The fun begins around 10:15 and runs until midnight. You never know who may show up fresh from performing in the Cultural District theatres. Aladdin perhaps? Tickets are not required and there are no cover or minimum charges. The Backstage Bar is open for an adult beverage (that isn’t free) to toast the end of summer.
Heid Studios in Aspinwall hosts a salon jazz concert and recording session with the Lynn Speakman Quintet featuring Ron Blake. When he is not doing a zillion other things, Blake plays sax with the Saturday Night Live band. Tickets are not required, but a donation is requested. Refreshments are generally not provided. At Heid Studios, 201 Center Street in Aspinwall. Sunday 2 to 4 pm. There is off street parking, free on Sundays, between Center and Eastern Avenues off of Freeport Road. There is limited on-street parking, however, most spaces require a resident permit.
See ya summer! It’s been fun.
