Leanne Cope & Robert Fairchild (Tristram Kenton)

Many Pittsburghers saw the national tour production as part of the CLO’s 2017 season. The Great Performances presentation stars Robert Fairchild as Gerry Mulligan and Leanne Cope as Lise Dassin who created the roles for the 2014 world premiere in Paris, which subsequently traveled to Broadway in 2015 followed by London’s West End in 2017.  An essential component of the An American in Paris story is the intense chemistry between Jerry and Lise that drives the plot forward. This production for cinema and television release, recorded at the West End run, captures the intensity of the relationship in glistening detail. Ross MacGibbon’s direction for the screen offers the perfect balance of cinematic close-ups along with flawlessly capturing the fantastic choreography by Stage Director and Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon.  The multiple camera angles afford the ideal combination of the front row, mid-orchestra and balcony front seats with possibly the best sound recording of a live musical performance.  Tune in “live” or DVR An American in Paris and see great performances along with one of the best cinematic recordings of a musical.
