Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center to Receive $15,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

According to a press release from Lincoln Park the grant helps support this coming summer’s production of Memphis The Musical and Lincoln Park’s Diversity Initiative. Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center’s project is among 1,125 projects across America totaling more than $26.6 million that were selected during this second round of Grants for Arts Projects fiscal year 2022 funding.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support arts and cultural organizations throughout the nation with these grants, including Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, providing opportunities for all of us to live artful lives,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “The arts contribute to our individual well-being, the well-being of our communities, and to our local economies. The arts are also crucial to helping us make sense of our circumstances from different perspectives as we emerge from the pandemic and plan for a shared new normal informed by our examined experience.”

Chris Shovlin, Lincoln Park’s Chief Executive Officer said, “we are extremely proud to be receiving a grant from an organization as prestigious as the NEA. It demonstrates, again, the high artistic quality of Lincoln Park’s presentations under the masterful leadership of Producing Artistic Director Justin Fortunato.”

Memphis The Musical is a roof-raising rock ‘n roll journey that takes you behind the curtain into the seedy nightclubs where a musical movement is born. With an original score written by Bon Jovi keyboardist David BryanMemphis transports audiences to the 1950’s South through irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love between a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer on the verge of a big break.

“We are enormously grateful to the National Endowment for the Arts for their support of our 2022 production of Memphis The Musical,” said Fortunato, Lincoln “We believe strongly in this production and look forward to introducing our audiences to this story in July of 2022.”
