Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Carousel’ Opens June 17th at Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center Presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel This landmark of American musical theatre comes to Midland, PA June 17-19 & 24-26.

Carousel is a love story about a tragic anti-hero, and the wife and child he leaves behind, features some of the most powerful music ever written for the stage. This magical and majestic classic embodies both the grey areas of life and the Golden Age of Broadway. Musical umbers include stalwarts of American music such as “If I Loved You,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”.

Voted the best musical of the 20th century by Time Magazine, Carousel, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s second musical, opened on April of 1945, just weeks before the end of the war. While often viewed as a giant of musical theatre, by today’s standards Carousel is a “problem musical” due to the way it handles spousal abuse. Judge for yourself if the music and lyrics redeem the relationship as portrayed in the musicals story line.

Carousel served as a beautiful story of hope, loss, and the power of love for audiences who at the time were still reeling from the enormous losses of the Second Great War,” commented Justin Fortunato, Producing Artistic Director in a press release from Lincoln Park. “With everything going on in the world today, and the seemingly insurmountable darkness that can encroach, this show continues to be a place where audiences and artists alike are reminded that no one walks alone in this life. The beauty, loss, and hope in this show make it an exhilarating experience at the theater.”

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel opens June 17th with additional performances on June 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26, 2022. Individual tickets are available now by visiting https://www.lincolnparkarts.org/events or calling 724.576.4644.
