Pittsburgh Public’s ‘Robin Hood’ Invades County Parks

Families can take a step back to Medieval times and watch as Robin Hood and his Merry Men perform heroic deeds in Allegheny County Parks, thanks to Pittsburgh Public Theater.

The Cultural District-based company ventured outdoors in 2021 to present “Barefoot in the Park” on the pop-up Allegheny Overlook stage, Downtown, and at The Frick Pittsburgh.

Starting Sunday, June 26 — weather permitting — the Public moves farther afield, bringing a free family-friendly “Robin Hood” to South Park, Boyce Park and Hartwood Acres June 26-July 9.

The Public artistic director Marya Sea Kaminski directs Greg Banks’ version of Robin and his Merry Men, produced in special arrangement with Plays for New Audiences. “Robin Hood” is part of the Public Unplugged series, which launched last summer with “Barefoot in the Park.”

The “playful retelling” includes live music and features Nicholas Robert Ortiz as Robin Hood, Arjun Kumar as Much, J. Alex Noble as Prince John & Little John, Jade Langan as Maid Marian, Lydia Miller as Muso, Allan Snyder as the Sheriff of Nottingham and music director Douglas Levine doubles up as Friar Tuck.

‘Robin Hood’ Schedule:

  • South Park Amphitheater, 2 and 7 p.m., June 26.
  • Boyce Park Wave Pool Parking Lot, 7 p.m. July 1, and 2 p.m. July 2.
