Kylie Edwards, representing Pittsburgh CLO’s Gene Kelly Awards at the 2022 National High School Musical Theatre Awards, was named best dancer among the winners announced at the 13th annual Broadway showcase on June 27.
Her honor was presented by “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” for excellence in dance and movement.
Gateway High School grad and Carnegie Mellon-bound Kylie was among four Western Pennsylvania representatives at the Jimmy Awards, which this year featured 92 participants from coast to coast. Tyler Guinto-Brody also represented the Kellys – named for Pittsburgh native and legendary Hollywood dancer Gene Kelly – at New York’s Minskoff Theatre, along with Henry Mancini Award-winners Maelyn Isenberg and Jack Walker.

The overall winners at the 2022 Jimmys were Kendall Becerra of the Broadway San Diego Awards and Nicholas Barrón, representing the Las Casas Foundation’s Joci Awards.
The Jimmys, named for Broadway impresario James Nederlander, were established in 2009 by Pittsburgh CLO and Nederlander Alliances, a division of The Nederlander Organization, “to elevate the importance of theater arts education in schools and reward excellence in student performance.” Annual competitions are sponsored by more than 40 professional theaters throughout the United States, with the best actors and actresses eligible to participate in the national competition.
The 2022 Jimmy Awards showcase was once again held in the Broadway home of “The Lion King,” marking the first in-person ceremony since 2019.
