Here’s musical theater casting news to look forward to, from Pittsburgh Musical Theater and Front Porch Theatricals:

‘Once,’ Pittsburgh Musical Theater 

Husband and wife David Toole and Kate Queen, who met in 2008 while portraying Tony and Maria in Gargaro Productions’ West Side Story, tportray Guy and Girl, in PMT’s Once.

Toole has played the role of Guy for Theater Raleigh and Berkshire Theater Group, and was in the cast of Pittsburgh CLO’s production as emcee. He’s right at home as a Dubliner, as he proved in Front Porch Theatrical’s Dublin-set A Man of No Importance last summer.

Joining Toole and Queen in the show, March 9-April 2, are Jack Boice, Kamilah Lay, Todd Aulwurm, Cissy Rebich, Paul Binotto, Tommy McDowell, Lauren Wainwright, Ben Johnson, Thomas Kuklenski, Brecken Newton Farrell, and Ainsley Christof and Alex Delale-O’Connor, sharing the role of Ivanka.

‘Falsettos’ and ‘Merrily We Roll Along,’ Front Porch Theatricals

Front Porch Theatricals has announced casting for the company’s 2023 season, starting in May with Falsettos and, for August, the company’s first Sondheim musical, Merrily We Roll Along. Coincidentally, a version of Merrily that had been playing off-Broadway is now Broadway-bound. 

Previously announced directors for are Rob James for Falsettos and, for Merrily, Daina Micheile Griffith, recently seen as prima ballerina Elizabeta Grushinskaya in Front Porch’s Grand Hotel.

The Falsettos cast includes returning actors Chad Elder (Marvin), Lindsay Bayer (Cordelia) and Dan Mayhak (Swing), with new-to-Front Porch Justin Borak (Mendel), Jenna Kantor (Trina), Sal Bucci (Whizzer) and Natalie Hatcher (Dr. Charlotte). Swings include Anna Gergerich and Liv Poole.  

For Merrily We Roll Along, returnees include Mayhak (Frank), Brady Patsy (Joe), Marnie Quick (Beth), Hope Anthony (Ensemble, understudy Mary and Dance Captain), with Catherine Kolos ( Mary), Michaela Isenberg (Gussie) and Nathaniel Yost (Charlie). 

Other returnees include Delana Flowers, David Ieong,  Missy Moreno and Lucia Williams, joined by Victor Aponte, Matt Fawcett, Ashton Guthrie, Miles Hanna, Carmen LoPresti, Alawna Mallory, and Halle Surgil.
