While the Greer Cabaret Theater makeover is ongoing, the Trust Cabaret Series continues tonight at the O’Reilly Theater with award-winning singer Carole J. Bufford.

In The New York Times, Stephen Holden wrote of vocalist Carole J. Bufford:
“The real thing: you know it when you see it … The way her voice, with its blues inflections, cut a swath, leaving nothing standing, tempts me to describe her with groveling hyperbole as an earthier, more acerbic 21st-century Barbra Streisand.”
The recipient of a Nightlife, Bistro and BroadwayWorld Award for Outstanding Vocalist, Bufford has become one of the most sought after young performers in the New York cabaret and jazz scene. In 2020, she was awarded the prestigious American Traditions Vocal Competition Gold Medal. Her recent shows, Speak Easy (featuring the Grammy Award-winning Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks) and Body & Soul earned her raves from the Times and The Wall Street Journal, among others.
The singer was featured in Michael Feinstein’s Great American Songbook series at Jazz @ Lincoln Center and has been spotlighted in numerous Broadway By The Year concerts. Bufford starred in Scott Siegel’s 11 O’Clock Numbers at 11 O’Clock at Feinstein’s at The Loew’s Regency, at eight months one of the longest runs in Feinstein’s history.
When her concert Bad Moon Rising played Birdland on Halloween last year, BroadwayWorld.com’s review said, “There was simply the greatest treat of them all, on the stage for nearly 90 minutes: Miss Carole J. Bufford. Bufford is definitely one of the gifts the Entertainment Gods sent to earth to spread joy to the masses, and, with each show that she does, Carole captures new hearts.”
A believer in honoring, celebrating and teaching the Great American Songbook of yesterday and today, Bufford’s biography says that she would “like someone playing a nasty slide trombone to follow her around punctuating her daily activities.”
The penultimate concert in the 2022-23 Trust Cabaret series — Norm Lewis headlines the season finale on May 8 — is at the O’Reilly Theater, Downtown, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 27. Tickets and details: https://trustarts.org/production/82084/carole-j-bufford
