Betcha By Golly: New Stylistics to Perform for New Horizon Theater Benefit

New Horizon Theater presents Russell Thompkins Jr. and the New Stylistics May 6 at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, East Liberty.

Thompkins’ falsetto is recognizable as the original lead singer of ‘70s supergroup The Stylistics, known for hits such as You Make Me Feel Brand New; Stop, Look, Listen; You Are Everything; Betcha By Golly, Wow; and many more.

Chris Moore serves as emcee for the concert and fundraiser, benefiting the 30-year-old Pittsburgh company.

New Horizon Theater has as its next production Chicken & Biscuits, which was seen on Broadway in 2021.

The play by Douglas Lyons, directed by Eileen J. Morris, is about battling sisters Baneatta and Beverly at the funeral of their father. Baneatta’s pastor husband tries to mediate the family drama, but when a shocking family secret reveals itself at the altar, the two sisters are faced with a truth that could either heal or break them.

Chicken & Biscuits opens May 26 at City Theatre’s Dr. Vernell Audrey Watson Lillie Theatre on the South Side. Tickets and info: newhorizontheater.org/
