Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Announces  2023-2024 Trust Cabaret Series

Performances will be showcased in the newly renovated Greer Cabaret Theater within the Theater Square Complex

“This season we look forward to our patrons enjoying the newly transformed theater and unforgettable performances by the celebrated talents of Mauricio Martinez, Meow MeowJoe Iconis & Family, Catherine Russell, and Matthew Morrison. The cabaret genre provides a truly unique experience that combines engaging storytelling with world-class vocal talent. This 11th season is inspired by past seasons and moves us forward to a new diverse group of talent premiering in our Trust Cabaret Series!,” shares Randal Miller, Director of Special Projects and Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

2023-2024 Trust Cabaret Series Schedule with two performances each date at 7:00 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.

Monday, October 2, 2023 – Mauricio Martínez is a Mexican Emmy Winning actor and recording artist whose work spans film, television, albums, concerts, plays, and musicals. Mr. Martínez made his Broadway debut playing the role of Cuban hitmaker and producer ‘Emilio Estefan’ in On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan and on the musical’s first national tour. Mauricio, a household name in Mexico and Latin America can be seen in two seasons of NBC Universo’s original Emmy-winning TV series El Vato on Netflix. Other television credits include the 40th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, Gershwin Prize (2019, CBS television), and One Voice: The Songs We Share with the American Pops Orchestra on PBS television. Mauricio has released two Latin pop albums. 

Monday, November 6, 2023 – Post-post-modern diva Meow Meow has hypnotized, inspired, and terrified audiences globally with unique creations and sell-out seasons from New York’s Lincoln Center and Berlin’s Bar Jeder Vernunft to London’s West End and the Sydney Opera House. Meow Meow is a prolific creator of original music, theater, and dance theater. Her latest album, Hotel Amour, was recorded with Thomas M. Lauderdale of Pink Martini. The album features duets with Rufus Wainwright and the late Michel Legrand, original songs written by Lauderdale and Meow Meow, and performed with members of Pink Martini and the Oregon Symphony.

Monday, February 19, 2024 – Joe Iconis is a musical theater writer and performer. He has been nominated for a Tony Award, two Drama Desk Awards, and a Lucille Lortel Award, as well as the recipient of the Ed Kleban Award, Jonathan Larson Award, and Richard Rodgers Award. Mr. Iconis’ musical Be More Chill (with Joe Tracz) opened the 2022 season at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre. He is the author of various musical productions performed Off-Broadway and at theaters nationwide. Iconis’ music has appeared on Season 2 of Smash (NBC television) with his song, Broadway, Here I Come! His concert act, Joe Iconis & Family, frequently plays Feinstein’s/54 Below, The Laurie Beechman Theater, Weston Playhouse, and other venues around the country.

Monday, March 18, 2024 – Grammy Award-winning vocalist Catherine Russell is a native New Yorker born into musical royalty. Her father, the late Luis Russell, was a legendary pianist, composer, bandleader, and Louis Armstrong’s long-time musical director. Her mother, Carline Ray, was a pioneering vocalist, guitarist, and bassist who performed with International Sweethearts of Rhythm, Mary Lou Williams, and Sy Oliver. Ms. Russell has toured the world, performing and recording with David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Jackson Browne, Michael Feinstein, The Holmes Brothers, Wynton Marsalis, Rosanne Cash, among others, appearing on over 200 albums.  The Wall Street Journal has noted Catherine Russell is “one of the outstanding singers of our time.” 

Monday, May 6, 2024 – Matthew Morrison is a versatile actor recognized for his work on-stage and on-screen. He has been nominated for Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe Awards. Morrison’s Broadway credits include Finding Neverland as J.M. Barrie, FootlooseHairspray (Link Larkin), The Light in the Piazza (Morrison was nominated for a Tony Award), 10 Million Miles (he received a Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Musical), and starred in the Tony-winning revival of South Pacific at Lincoln Center. On television, Mr. Morrison was a guest star in several series and hosted and narrated the PBS special Oscar Hammerstein II – Out of My Dreams. Mr. Morrison’s recordings include, Where It All Began, a collection of Broadway standards produced by Phil Ramone. and a self-titled debut album that featured guest artists Sir Elton John, Sting, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
