Local companies to produce world premieres of one-act plays

The Pittsburgh New Works Festival will partner with local theater companies to present world premieres of three one-act plays during the second week of its 32nd season, Aug. 31 – Sept. 3, in the Genesius Theater at Duquesne University.
The three plays are Lucid, by Dana Hall of Orland Park, Ill, produced by Iron Horse Theatre Company; Frank & Frannie, With Love, by Nick Rafello of New York City, produced by The Theatre Factory; and My Top 5, by Amy V. Morse of Princeton Junction, N.J., produced by Prime Stage Theatre.
The season runs for five weekends, Aug. 24- Sept. 24, with performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Three world premieres are presented on each of the five-weekend programs.
The plays were selected from more than 200 submitted earlier this year. The Festival evaluated each submitted play, with the 15 to be produced chosen from among the highest scorers. The playwrights of the plays being presented are from states coast to coast and as far as Alaska.
Tickets for each performance cost $17 in advance, $20 at the door, and just $15 for students, reflecting the Festival’s mission to make theater accessible to diverse audiences.
