Before Rent, there was Tick, Tick… Boom! the autobiographical musical by the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning composer Jonathan Larson. The show takes you on the playwright/composer’s journey that led to a Broadway blockbuster. It features fourteen songs, ten characters, three actors, and a band.
Storyline: Set in 1990, this is a story of personal discovery. Jon is a talented but conflicted composer navigating the challenges of pursuing his passion for music while facing the pressures of time and the expectations of those around him. Set against personal and professional struggles in 1990s New York City.
Jon’s girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city. His best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, yet Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical.
Tick, Tick… Boom! explores the relationship between creativity, ambition, and pursuing one’s dreams through life’s most difficult challenges with a unique blend of musical theatre styles.
Directed by London Cain, with Xander Boots as Jon, Jerry Hahn as Michael, and Melanie Celeste as Susan & Karessa.
