Chamber Music Pittsburgh (CMP) announces the indelible Rosamunde String Quartet for a special one-night-only concert this spring. Stars from some of the world’s greatest orchestras, ranging from Berlin to Los Angeles, combine their remarkable talents to create this internationally renowned ensemble.
The special event features a new program, including a lively quartet by Joseph Haydn, the evocative, Pittsburgh-inspired Credo by contemporary composer Kevin Puts, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s monumental String Quartet in A minor, Op: 132, No. 15.
Audiences will have the rare opportunity to hear four of the most celebrated string musicians performing together. Even though they play individually in some of the world’s greatest orchestras, they take time away from their careers to continue celebrating and sharing chamber music with audiences. The Rosamunde String Quartet, formed in 2015, has appeared in chamber music series in New York City, Washington DC, and Toronto, Canada.
The quartet features four performers who are each celebrated soloists in their own right: Noah Bendix-Balgley (violin), Shanshan Yao (violin), Teng Li (viola), and Nathan Vickery (cello).
Noah Bendix-Balgley (violin) is the first Berlin Philharmonic concertmaster and former Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concertmaster. He tours internationally with major orchestras and chamber ensembles. He is praised for his “sweet tone, impeccable intonation, and a fine, lyrical sense of line” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer).
Shanshan Yao (violin) enjoys a multifaceted career as a chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral player. She was a tenured member of the first violin section of the New York Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and has performed as a soloist with orchestras worldwide.
Teng Li (viola), principal violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is a diverse and dynamic performer internationally. In addition to performing in LA, Li is an active recitalist and chamber musician. She is also the Artistic Director of Morningside Music Bridge.
Nathan Vickery (cello), lauded as a “formidable cello soloist” (The New York Times), performs with the New York Philharmonic and tours internationally as a solo and chamber musician. He performs frequently on the New York Philharmonic’s chamber music series, Ensembles, and the Philharmonic’s new music series.
