Pittsburgh CLO Concert With the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra is June 1, 2024 at the Benedum Center
By SHARON EBERSON
Twenty years after Jeff Goldblum romped as The Music Man for Pittsburgh CLO, the native of West Homestead and one of the world’s top box-office draws is returning to the Benedum Center stage, this time as Leader of the Band.
Pittsburgh CLO presents Jeff Goldblum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra – so-named for a Goldblum family neighbor – in the return to his hometown for a one-night-only concert on June 1, 2024. Tickets for the public go on sale April 3.

It’s been a couple of decades since Goldblum starred in The Music Man, in July 2004, and made the experience into a mockumentary-style movie, titled Pittsburgh. The concert in June precedes Pittsburgh CLO’s 2024 summer-season revival of The Music Man, July 9-14.
Millions of movie-goers know Goldblum as the Chaos Theorist of Jurassic Park, Techie of Independence Day, and Grandmaster of Thor: Ragnarok, but his performance career started at the piano, as a teenager playing at Pittsburgh clubs.
Jazz pianist Goldblum, 71, comes home as the buzz has begun to see him as the Wizard of Oz in the upcoming Wicked films, based on the Stephen Schwartz musical. (Perhaps the two compared notes on Carnegie Mellon University, where Schwartz did his post-grad work and the teenage Goldblum was inspired to become an actor.) The first of two Wicked movies is due in theaters November 27, 2024.
Goldblum and his orchestra previously performed two sold-out concerts at the Carnegie Library of Homestead in February of 2019. In those concerts, “a stone’s throw” from where he grew up, Goldblum was his usual chatty self, waved a Terrible Towel and stepped into the audience to connect with locals he hadn’t seen since he left Pittsburgh at age 17, on his way to stage and screen stardom.
The 2024 performance will feature accomplished jazz pianist Goldblum with featured vocalist Tawanda, John Storie on guitar, Alex Frank on bass, Joe Bagg on organ, James King and Scott Gilman on saxophones and Ryan Shaw on drums. The Snitzers’ latest album, Plays Well With Others, was released on March 24, 2023, on Decca Records.
