The 2024 August Wilson New Voices Monologue Competition will be presented by the Bill Nunn Theatre Outreach Project tonight, April 15, with actor Brenden Peifer serving as master of ceremonies.
Peifer, who has performed with multiple local companies, serves as the Outreach and Engagement Coordinator for the August Wilson Archive at the University of Pittsburgh. His notable performances include roles in August Wilson’s Two Trains Running and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Harlem for Pittsburgh Public Theater and Hamlet for Quantum Theatre.

The New Voices Competition is a city-wide competition open to Pittsburgh high school students in honor of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Hill District resident, who set nine of his plays there. To participate, students engage in competition by either performing a 2-3 minute monologue or creating a visual design presentation from one of the 10 plays in August Wilson’s Century Cycle.
The top three students from the Regional Finals receive cash prizes, may receive Point Park University AWNV Scholarships, and are granted the opportunity to compete at the AWNV Nationals. The 2024 August Wilson New Voices Monologue Competition starts at 6 p.m. at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, North Side. Attendance is free, but registration is required. Refreshments will be served. Visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/august-wilson-new-voices-competition-presented-by-bill-nunn-theatre-outreach-project-tickets-862992121667 to register.
