Nominees Representing Four Counties Announced
Broadway actress Arielle Jacobs will help celebrate high school musical theater excellence as the speaker at th 2024 Henry Mancini Awards, which recognize students from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
A program of Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center since 2014, the Mancini Awards’ participating schools this year are: Ambridge Area High School, Beaver Area High School, Beaver Falls High School, Central Valley High School, Freedom Area High School, Freeport High School, Hopewell Area High School, Knoch High School, Mars Area High School, Mohawk High School, New Castle High School, North Catholic High School, Riverside High School, Slippery Rock High School, South Side High School, and Western Beaver Jr./Sr. High School.
The awards ceremony will be held at Lincoln Park on Sunday, May 19, 2024, and will feature performances by the schools nominated for Best Musical, students nominated for individual awards, and two representatives from each participating school in the grand finale.
Under the sponsorship of the Pittsburgh CLO, this year’s Mancini Awards are part of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmy Awards). The Mancini winners for best actor and actress will join the winners from PCLO’s Gene Kelly Awards and winners from across the nation in nine days of working with theater professionals, culminating at the Jimmys, held at Broadway’s Minskoff Theater, home of Disney’s The Lion King.
Keynote speaker Jacobs, who starred as Princess Jasmine in Aladdin, made her Broadway debut opposite Lin-Manuel Miranda, playing Nina Rosario in the final Broadway cast of his Tony Award- and Grammy Award-winning musical In The Heights. She also played Nessarose on Broadway in Wicked, and recently portrayed Imelda Marcos opposite Lea Salonga in the first-ever all-Filipino Broadway cast of Here Lies Love. Jacobs also originated the role of Gabriella in Disney’s High School Musical On Stage.
