Three Culturally Distinct Choruses in One Extraordinary Performance
The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP) presents CrosSing Bridges, an innovative program that highlights the power of choral music to bring people together across cultures and traditions.
The concert blends gospel, Latin American, and classical choral music, led by Dr. Herbert V. R. P. Jones, Lourdes Santiesteban, and Daniel Singer. Audiences will not only experience this exceptional performance but will also have the chance to participate in the singing, creating a true celebration of community and collaboration.
“CrosSing Bridges is about bringing people together through music, breaking down barriers, and finding common ground across different cultures,” said MCP’s Music Director, Daniel Singer. “We’re thrilled to showcase this beautiful diversity of sound and invite our audience to join us in song.”
Throughout this season, MCP has expanded its mission by forging new musical partnerships across cultural traditions and inviting everyone to raise their voices in song. CrosSING Bridges is a new annual program designed to foster collaborations with choral leaders from diverse traditions.
Dr. Herbert V. R. P. Jones, director of The Heritage Gospel Chorale of Pittsburgh, highlights the importance of the collaboration: “Music has always been a unifying force, and this collaboration shows the power of different traditions coming together to create something truly special. We are honored to be a part of this initiative.”
Throughout the season, MCP has also offered opportunities for both current and new audiences to actively participate in singing. Through these initiatives, MCP seeks to engage more people in the joy and transformative power of singing, creating an artistically thrilling and inclusive season.
Lourdes Santiesteban, director of Coro Latinoamericano Pittsburgh, adds: “This event is a wonderful opportunity to share the richness of Latin American music and to come together with other traditions to create something unique. It’s an experience not to be missed.”
CrosSING Bridges is part of MCP’s broader commitment to using choral music as a bridge to foster understanding, empathy, and community.
