Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company and the August Wilson House have made it official, setting the schedule for a 2025 three-play summer festival, titled August Wilson’s American Century Cycle Experience.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Fences will be the traditional “August in August” offering at the landmark August Wilson House, with award-winning actor Stephen McKinley Henderson on board to direct, said Playwrights founder and leader Mark Clayton Southers.
Henderson was Tony-nominated as Bono in the 2010 Fences revival on Broadway, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, and reprised his role alongside that pair in the Pittsburgh-filmed, Oscar-nominated 2016 film. He has been seen recently in the first Dune film and the Netflix series A Man on the Inside, among dozens of other screen appearances.
Two Trains Running and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom will play at Madison Arts Center, with the latter schedule for the new ground-floor cabaret space.
Pittsburgh Playwrights’ current production, Art of Wise by Mark Clayton Southers, runs through May 4, 2025.
