The Bach Choir of Pittsburgh will present a season unlike any other in its 2025–26 series, Cirque de Cinéma, exploring the powerful interplay between choral music and the moving image. The three-concert season will feature unique pairings of live performance with film, spanning silent cinéma, timeless classics, and Oscar-nominated hits.
The season opens November 15 and 16, 2025, with I Was Born for This, a rare live performance of Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light alongside a screening of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 silent masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc. This monumental oratorio will be presented in the newly renovated Row House – Hollywood Theater, accompanied by a 16-piece chamber orchestra.
On February 14 and 15, 2026, the choir will present Never Silenced, an inventive program that pairs the intricate, timeless music of J.S. Bach with the revolutionary silent films of Charlie Chaplin. The result is a moving, surprising dialogue between two masters whose work speaks across generations.
The season concludes in May 2026 with Oscar Nods, where the choir will shine a spotlight on the astonishing range of Academy Award–nominated and winning songs.
“Our Cirque du Cinéma season invites audiences to see and hear the possibilities when music and film share the stage,” said Thomas W. Douglas, Artistic Director of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. “From the raw emotional power of Voices of Light to the joy of Oscar’s greatest hits, it’s going to be an extraordinary journey.”
