PAY ATTENTION, CLASS! ‘AGNUS TEACHES ACTING’ AT NEW HAZLETT
Class is in session and the claws are out at the New Hazlett Theater for “acting teacher, self-proclaimed star and cabaret disaster” Agnus Stephenson. Agnus Teaches Acting, a long-gestating work by Treasure Treasure, as Agnus, with writing partners Zanny Laird and Lucas Fedele, as a presentation of the New Hazlett’s developmental program Community Supported Artists.
In feisty and funny promotions for the class, er, show, February 5-6, 2026, at the North Side theater, the cast has been heralded thus: “Prepare your souls for a masterclass in brilliance, or at the very least, a masterclass in Agnus. We are thrilled to introduce the ‘ensemble’ (Agnus’s word, not ours) who will be joining her on stage”: Moire del Carmen Díaz, Joe Kosha, Richard McBride, Wallis Lucas, Elexa Lindsay Hanner, and “Agnus – Herself.” It was noted, “We are contractually obligated to include Agnus in this announcement.”
The creative team for Agnus Teaches Acting includes lighting designer Andrew Ostrowski (“tasked with finding Agnus’s good side”), sound designer and costume consultant Lillie Tuck, sound designer Kyle Buchheister, and, in charge of Agnus’ hair, Melony Noel. Music and lyrics are by Treasure, Fedele and Laird (about to be on stage for Pittsburgh Public Theater’s An Enemy of the People), with additional music composed, orchestrated and arranged by Buchheister and Rick Edinger.

BRICOLAGE REVEALS CLUES TO NEXT IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE
Samizdat. Definition: “The clandestine copying and distribution of literature banned by the state, especially formerly in the communist countries of eastern Europe.”
Bricolage Productions, the pace-setting theater company in immersive experiences, has dropped mysterious clues under the title SAMIZDAT: “Certain preparations are underway. Things are quietly taking shape in rooms meant for gathering …,” with links to social media and the company e-newsletter, to “watch for signals.” Dates are revealed to be for Play #1 (March 26-29, 2026), Play # 2 (April 30-May 1, 2026) and Play #3 (May 28-31, 2026), with locations and other information “REDACTED.” Check in as more is revealed at https://www.bricolagepgh.org/immersives/theater/samizdat.
PICT PRESENTS WORKSHOP OF ‘TEMPEST’ PREQUEL
Pittsburgh International Classic Theatre continues to develop T.J. Young’s Isle of Noises, a prequel to Shakespeare’s The Tempest, which was introduced in the Bards From the Burgh reading series. A workshop presentation is set for 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, February 7-8, 2026, at the Peirce Theatre, 937 Liberty Ave., Downtown. Playwright Young’s story imagines events that unfold on the island before Prospero’s arrival.

TRUST CABARET SUBS CHEYENNE JACKSON FOR JEREMY JORDAN
Cheyenne Jackson has replaced Jeremy Jordan — recently announced as taking over for Jonathan Groff in Broadway’s Just In Time — as the Trust Cabaret headliner on May 11, 2026. The Emmy- and Grammy- nominated Jackson (Xanadu, Into the Woods, Oh, Mary! on Broadway; TV’s American Horror Story, 30 Rock) brings his musical memoir, Mid Life Torso Tour, to the Greer Cabaret, following his Carnegie Hall debut in December 2025.

HERE, THERE AND FEBRUARY’s FRIDAY THE 13th
Friday the 13th in February doubles as Valentine’s Day Eve in February, ]perfect timing for the one-night-only Love Potion #13. Quantum Theatre’s “intimate and intoxicating theatrical fundraiser” features Tami Dixon and Tony Bingham in six immersive experiences by playwrights Morag Shepherd and Matthew Ivan Bennett, directed by Alex Ungerman. Between scenes, patrons can enjoy “savory snacks and decadent drinks” from Black Radish and Lo Bar.” 7-10 p.m. at Quantum Theatre’s Warehouse, 1025 Beaver Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233 (free parking on-site).

Also on Friday the 13th (14th and 15th), Alumni Theater Company presents Akeelah and the Bee, a stage adaptation of the 2006 film about preteen Akeelah Anderson, “who claims her voice one unforgettable word at a time.” The production features a special guest performance by WTAE’s Sheldon Ingram as Dr. Larabee, “a reminder that mentorship, courage, and belief can change everything.”
