As February begins, more than a dozen schools are on the eve of their performances, while others have months before curtain. As we continue to seek out upcoming shows and update the 2026 Western Pennsylvania Spring High School Musicals listing, we are kicking off now, to accommodate the schools that are first out of the starting gate.

For awards show season, the 2026 Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Benedum Center. The Kellys, this year representing 38 participating schools in Allegheny County, were launched by Pittsburgh CLO in 1991 “to recognize and encourage student achievement and to focus the attention of the community and school districts on the importance of musical theater and arts education.” For tickets and details about the Kellys, visit https://www.pittsburghclo.org/education/gene-kelly-awards/participating-schools. 

The 32nd annual Henri Mancini Awards (Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties) are presented by the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center. Details TBA.

The winners of outstanding actor and actress at the Kellys and Mancinis are eligible to participate at the National High School Musical Theater Awards (the Jimmy Awards) at the Minskoff Theatre, home of Broadway’s The Lion King.

Among first-time shows in our area, Elizabeth Forward High School will perform the Stephen Schwartz musical, Dreaworks’ The Prince of Egypt, and Mohawk High School will perform the teen edition of Water for Elephants.
