Quantum Theatre has announced its 2026-2027 season, a three-production lineup including a world premiere, exploring “haunting returns, unexpected reckonings, and bold new beginnings,” while continuing the company’s long-running tradition of staging performances in unconventional spaces throughout Pittsburgh.
The season also marks a significant transition for the company, with Artistic Director Karla Boos directing her final production for Quantum.
Here is a look at the upcoming season:

The Tempest
July 17 – August 23
Quantum returns to Carrie Blast Furnaces for Shakespeare’s late masterpiece, directed by Boos as her final production as Artistic Director. Long associated with some of Quantum’s most ambitious Shakespeare productions, the industrial site will once again serve as the backdrop for one of the playwright’s most lyrical and enigmatic works.
Boos has chosen a setting on the rear side of the furnace grounds facing outward toward nature, reflecting the play’s themes of transformation, memory, and farewell.
radio island
October 23 – November 15
Written by Liza Birkenmeier and directed by Katie Brook, this gothic thriller follows an international hostage negotiator returning home only to confront memories and tensions she cannot escape.
Blending psychological suspense with family history, radio island explores the lingering power of the past and the fragile boundaries between memory and reality.
Cassandra
April 9 – May 2, World Premiere
Playwright Morag Shepherd’s Cassandra draws audiences into “The Retreat,” an immersive world of shifting loyalties, quiet manipulation, and dangerous belief systems.
As participants become increasingly entangled in Cassandra’s inner circle, questions of trust, healing, and devotion begin to blur.
