PLAYHOUSE SETS DATES FOR 2026-2027 SEASON

The Pittsburgh Playhouse at Point Park University has released dates for its 2026–2027 season, featuring a world-premiere musical, a new holiday show in December, and the return of Playhouse Rep and Playhouse Jr. among what “25 experiences spanning professional theater, dance, concerts, immersive productions, family programming, film, festivals, and community events.” 

The previously announced musical, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, is a collaboration between Lively McCabe Entertainment, Primary Wave Music, and Point Park University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts. Students will work alongside industry professionals throughout the development process, with sights on “Broadway, London’s West End, and beyond.” The musical will be at the Playhouse’s PNC Theatre November 13-15 and 18-22, 2026. The season also includes continued partnerships with WQED through Breakthrough Sessions: Tomorrow’s Music Today, along with the return of Fall Fest, Boo’s Halloween House Party, ASCEND, and ARTfully UPlifting, plus the Koresh Dance Company and student premieres. New this year is Yuletide! A Holiday Spectacular, “with music, dance, and seasonal magic” for all ages.

PBT’S ‘BALLET UNDER THE STARS’ RETURNS TO HARDWOOD ACRES

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre presents a free evening of dance under the stars at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Hartwood Acres.

The evening’s repertoire includes:

For the ticketed Picnic in the Park, 5:30-7:30 p.m, you can enjoy wine, dinner, and the opportunity to meet PBT artists before the performance

ONE MORE TIME: PPTC’s ‘ART OF WISE’ HEADED TO N.C.

Local audiences have the opportunity to see a one-night-only repeat of Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company’s production of Art of Wise, a play by Mark Clayton Southers, and help PPTC take the show on the road, to The International Black Theatre Festival, the biennial event held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The play will be at the company’s Madison Arts Center on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 7 p.m. The Theater Festival opens on July 27, with Art of Wise scheduled for four performances, July 28-29.

BARBARA ROLLA NAMED GEYER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER MANAGING DIRECTOR

Changes in leadership for theater companies isn’t just limited to Downtown Pittsburgh. For Barbara Rolla, stepping into the role of Managing Director at the Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale, Westmoreland County, isn’t just a career move — it’s a homecoming. A familiar face on the Geyer stage and a longtime advocate for community theater, Rolla brings decades of experience in arts leadership, administration, and performance to her new position.

“The Geyer has a rich history, and I look forward to building on that legacy while creating new opportunities for our audiences, performers, volunteers, and community,” said the Point Park alum. Her vision for the theater includes expanding educational opportunities, strengthening partnerships throughout the region and continuing improvements to the Geyer’s historic home, while also fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome.
