South Park Theatre’s production of Boeing Boeing by Marc Camoletti delivered a humorous evening with memorable characters and amusing theatrics. Directed by Jeanie Cygrymus, the play follows Bernard (Johnny Terreri), who is engaged to three different flight attendants with conflicting schedules. When flight upgrades and storms suddenly cause the three women to all be in the apartment at the same time, Bernard, along with his longtime friend Robert (Brent Feitl) and maid Berthe (Stacey Rosleck), engage in humorous ploys to keep them from finding out about each other.
The quaint apartment set created an inviting atmosphere as the audience filed into the cozy theatre space. Red and blue lighting illuminated a living room with many doors, creating the expectation of fun as I imagined the characters running in and out throughout the show. Terreri, as Bernard, provided a strong opening alongside his first flight-attendant fiancée, Gloria (Carina Iannarelli), and his meticulous questioning of her schedule comically alluded to the scandal soon to be revealed.
Rosleck gave an especially strong performance as Berthe with her sarcastic and witty remarks in the face of keeping up Bernard’s farce. She had the audience laughing immediately with her distasteful comments about the various menu items she needed to prepare for the different women, especially sauerkraut. She remained annoyed and deadpan in her line delivery throughout the performance, which drew a lot of laughter from her reactions to the various stunts the men were pulling off. In particular, I found that her suspiciously staring at Robert through the kitchen door’s porthole was quite funny, and her dedication to the character’s attitude throughout the entire show was admirable.
Making his South Park Mainstage debut, Feitl also gave a standout performance as Robert. He had engaging, convincing dynamics with the other characters, and his amusing mannerisms and flustered reactions contributed greatly to the comedic performance. Including spit-takes, fumbling a globe, and impromptu swatting at a bug on stage, Feitl’s acting was extremely funny, and his mastery over vocal inflections contributed to the comedic atmosphere as well.
The other flight attendants, Gabriella (Amanda Weber) and Gretchen (Jess Uhler), joined Iannarelli as Gloria to present a visually comedic scene once they all arrived at the apartment. Between funneling out for walks, complaining about rearranged bedrooms, and coming in and out of doors simultaneously, the actresses contributed to the humorous atmosphere with their comedic timing and passionate appraisals of Bernard. I found Uhler particularly funny for her comically intense reactions and facial expressions. She kept the audience laughing as she stared eagerly into the crowd after her passionate statements about loving Germany and missing Bernard. She and Feitl were a good pair as well, and their expressive antics and banter captivated the audience with even more laughter.
While providing an extremely amusing and entertaining evening through Boeing Boeing, the venue at South Park Theatre also contributed to the inviting atmosphere. This was my first time attending a show at the community theatre, and the little stone building with the surrounding garden was very quaint and welcoming. The audience was clearly a community of its own, and I watched many people greeting friends or being delighted to have unknowingly sat near someone they knew, which was quite endearing. This made the comedy all the more amusing since the audience was not afraid to laugh at all the antics occurring and created a very comforting space. I would certainly recommend attending South Park Theatre’s production of Boeing Boeing, which provided a highly entertaining and cozy evening at the community theater and clearly landed well with those who saw it.

I don’t understand why South Park Theater consistently casts Carina and Johnny in shows together. There is bound to be other dynamics out there that that are just as amazing if not better to behold. Please give other people opportunities to be apart of the community. This will likely be dismissed as someone who is jealous, but I am not in the competition so please know this isn’t jealousy, it’s more concern of equity and fair casting practices.
