CELEBRATING 20 YEARS AT THE NEW HAZLETT THEATER
Here’s what’s new at the New Hazlett Theater, with more to come in this 20th anniversary year: A new logo and new-look website await at https://www.newhazletttheater.org/, and there’s more: On September 24, The New Hazlett celebrates two decades with The Catalyst, starting at 6 p.m. with complimentary food and desserts, a cash bar, silent auction, and music curated by resident DJ Dave, and other live performers, plus archival imagery, visual installations, and artist testimonials reflecting NHT’s past, present, and future. Season reveals, hosted by Mils “MJ” James and Treasure Treasure, begin at 7:30 p.m. and include the 14th Community Supported Art (CSA) Performance Series and CSA Off the Page series, the inaugural ForgeWorks residency, and upcoming NHT-produced and co-produced productions.

$1.375 Million Gift Launches Pittsburgh Festival Opera Next Generation Training Program
Pittsburgh Festival Opera announced the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Next Generation Artists Program, a new year-round initiative made possible by a $1.375 million commitment from Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin. The five-year gift will support tuition-free training and performance opportunities for high school students from across Western Pennsylvania. The program begins in fall 2026 with a high school-level training experience led by Pittsburgh Festival Opera’s professional staff. Students will prepare operatic scenes, arias, and choruses throughout the year and perform in two featured concerts — one in the fall/winter and one in the spring — in collaboration with a Youth Concert Orchestra. “This extraordinary commitment from Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin allows us to invest deeply in young artists at two pivotal stages of their development,” said Marianne Cornetti, General & Artistic Director. “It creates an accessible pathway from a student’s first serious exploration of opera to the intensive training and professional relationships that can help launch a career.”

16th Annual Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival Honors Our America 250
The August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) presents the 16th edition of the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival (PIJF), featuring the city’s iconic history along with legendary and contemporary jazz, soul, blues and more. Most performances are free on Liberty Avenue in the heart of Downtown, with food trucks, a beer garden, and a Game Zone, plus ticketed concerts at AWAACC and partner venues. Jazz innovators Lalah Hathaway, Terri Lyne Carrington, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie & Friends, Eric Roberson, Roger Humphries, Nate Smith, Sean Jones, Orrin Evans’ Monk Tribute, Lady Blackbird, Annie & The Caldwells, The Rakiem Walker Project Featuring GLYRA & Christopher Swift, Jae Sinnett Blur The Lines Project and more “show us what we can look forward to in the future of American culture-shaping music.”
