Broadway and West End performer Darren Lee will direct and choreograph Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s production of Miss Saigon, March 4–14, 2027, at the Byham Theater.
Lee, who recently starred as the King of Siam in the West End and UK touring production of The King and I, was in the cast of the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon, which debuted in 1991. His directing and choreography credits for the Alain Boublil–Claude-Michel Schönberg musical include productions at The Muny in St. Louis, Paper Mill Playhouse, and Music Theatre of Wichita.
Among his many New York stage credits, he was associate choreographer and dance captain of a 2004-05 Pacific Overtures revival.
On Broadway, Lee most recently appeared in Allegiance, starring George Takei, Lea Salonga, and Telly Leung, which is available to stream internationally on BroadwayHD.
The California native’s screen career includes dancing in Rob Marshall’s Oscar-winning Chicago.
“Darren brings an extraordinary wealth of experience, artistic brilliance, leadership, and creative vision that represents the highest caliber of professional musical theater to our continued commitment to bringing exceptional theatrical experiences to
Pittsburgh audiences,” said Colleen Doyno, PMT’s Executive Director. “What makes this collaboration even more meaningful is the opportunity it creates for our own talented artists and creative teams to work alongside Darren and to be inspired by his approach to storytelling.”
Next up for PMT is Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, featuring performers from the PMT Conservatory alongside musicians from Pittsburgh CAPA, a collaboration that has brought young artists together for more than 20 years. Matilda runs November 5-8, 2026, at the Byham Theater. PMT returns to its West End home for another Young Artist production, A Lyrical Christmas Carol, at the Gargaro Theater December 16-20, 2026.
