Chamber Music Pittsburgh Opens 2023 with Isidore String Quartet

February 13 Program Combines Contemporary and Classic Repertoire

Chamber Music Pittsburgh (CMP) is honored to host the Isidore String Quartet for its Pittsburgh debut this February. The quartet recently won the top honor in the 2022 Banff International Competition and is praised for its joyful and intimate approach to the genre. The concert, part of CMP’s 2022–23 MainStage Live season, takes place on Monday, February 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Playhouse in Downtown Pittsburgh.

The Isidore String Quartet is replacing the St. Lawrence String Quartet, which was initially scheduled to perform during the MainStage series. Geoff Nuttall, violinist, and co-founder of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, passed away in October 2022. The Isidore String Quartet concert is dedicated to his memory.

“Our hearts are with the Quartet and Geoff’s family as they celebrate the life of this extraordinary musician,” says Kristen Linfante, Executive Director of Chamber Music Pittsburgh. “As we look forward to welcoming the dynamic Isidore String Quartet to Pittsburgh, we will take inspiration from Geoff’s remarkable passion for chamber music and his commitment to sharing this gift with the world.”

The Isidore String Quartet makes its Pittsburgh debut as part of an extensive North American and European tour. Founded by four students of the Juilliard School, this quartet celebrates string music’s inspiring history and modern growth. The program will include a vibrant mix of familiar and contemporary string music, including Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132, Haydn’s String Quartet No. 25 in C Major, Op. 20, No. 2, and four-time Grammy winner Billy Childs’s String Quartet No. 2, “Awakening.”
