The show features a joyous, Tony-winning score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper and a hilarious, uplifting book by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. The production opens on February 3rd at the Lamp Theater in Irwin.
Kinky Boots has won six Tony awards, including Best Musical, the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre album, and the London’s Olivier Award for Best Musical.
Plot-wise, Charlie Price has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola, a fabulous entertainer who needs some sturdy stilettos.
Together they work to turn the factory around. The unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they realized and discover that you can change your whole world when you change your mind.

Rob Jessup of Split Stage Productions told onStage Pittsburgh: “As for the show itself, outside of CLO doing it last Summer, I believe we are the first to do it locally, first amateur production in Western PA for sure. We have always prided ourselves on being at the forefront of producing shows that companies may tend to shy away from. Kinky Boots is a big one for Split Stage; there’s no doubt about it! And while people see Drag Queens, sequins, and heels, we see the message of acceptance and seeing the good in people beyond the surface. A lyric from the show says it all, “You change your world when you change your mind!”. Wow. We could not pass up the opportunity to get that type of message to audiences. We were not sure how this show would be received in the Irwin/Westmoreland County area, but the Saturday night performance of our opening weekend almost sold out within 24hrs of going on sale!!”
The creative team for Split Stage’s production of Kinky Boots includes Director – Laura Wurzell, Choreographer – Ashley Harmon, and Music Director – Joy Morgan Hess.
With a cast that includes Jason Shavers as Lola (via special AEA guest contract), Gabe DeRose as Charlie, Jim Scriven as Harry, Claire Ivy Stoller as Lauren, and Hannah Taylor as Nicola, along with Dixie Surewood and Chi Chi De Vivre.
