
The artistry of the PBT company complements the classic, rhythmic tale of Ravel‘s Boléro, resulting in the interweaving of dancers and melodies throughout the orchestra for an awe-inspiring interpretation choreographed by Susan Jaffe.
Two distinct programs, outlined below, feature Bolero, and additional works performed by the PSO.
Program for Friday, June 9, Saturday, June 10, and Sunday, June 11, 2023
Along with Boléro Igor Levit, described as a pianist “like no other pianist” (The New Yorker), returns to Pittsburgh with Gershwin‘s jazzy “Piano Concerto,” a work evoking the “young enthusiastic spirit of American life,” as described by Gershwin. Then two world premieres top off this already stunning program, including a new orchestral suite arrangement of Strauss‘s opera, Salome, by Pittsburgh’s very own Music Director Manfred Honeck.

In. this spoecial program, along with the PBT and Boléro, take a quick detour to the Iberian Peninsula alongside virtuosic violinist María Dueñas in Lalo‘s impassioned Symphonie Espagnole, painting a beautiful picture of Spanish culture.
