South Park Theatre Sets 2024 Mainstage Season

South Park Theatre has gathered a mix of comedy and drama and mystery and music to fill its 2024 Mainstage schedule.

The upcoming season opens on May 2 with a British comedy about infidelity and duplicity, and concludes as autumn begins, with those themes wrapped in a twisty British mystery.

SOUTH PARK THEATRE’S 2024 SEASON SCHEDULE

May 2-18 I Run for Your Wife by Ray Cooney:

The British comedy circa 1982 John Smith, an “ordinary” London taxi driver who secretly has two wives in different towns. When he inadvertently blows his own cover, his complicated life grows ever more complicated.

May 30-June 15 I The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson:

Set against the background of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, this seriously raucous comedy portrays a sisterhood of four real-life women: a playwright, an assassin, a former queen and a rebel. The play touches on themes of legacy, activism, terrorism and feminism to suggest how women can change the world.

June 27-July 13 I Dirty Rotten Scoundrels by Jeffrey Lane and David Yazbek:

In a musical based on the 1988 film of the same name,  sophisticated Lawrence makes a lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. Low-life Freddy swindles women with lies about his grandmother’s failing health. After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together, only to find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female heiress wins, and the other must leave town.

July 25-August 10 I A Rock Sails By by Sean Grennan:

Astrophysicist Dr. Lynn Cummings had believed in science over faith in the unknown, but what was once a source of comfort has become a source of emptiness. When a UFO is sighted heading toward Earth, she grants an interview to a journalist who misquotes her. With her credibility on the line, she invites him to witness the object as it comes closest to the Earth with her. Dr. Cummings hopes it will pass without incident, but there is no telling what she will discover beyond the stars.

August 22-September 7 I Into the Breeches! by George Brant:

Oberon Play House’s director and leading men are off at war with the Axis. Determined to press on, the director’s wife sets out to produce an all-female version of Shakespeare’s Henriad, assembling an increasingly unexpected team united in desire, if not actual experience. Together they deliver a celebration of collaboration and persistence, in a comedy about the singular way art and community reveal our boldest selves.

September 9-October 5 : Sleuth by Anthony Shaffer:

The ultimate game of cat and mouse is played out in a cozy English country house owned by celebrated mystery writer Andrew Wyke. Guest Milo Tindle, a young rival who shares Wyke’s love for games, declares his intention to run off with Wyke’s wife. The two men devise an elaborate revenge/power game with rising stakes, leading to a stunning conclusion.
