The Pittsburgh New Works Festival enters its 33rd season partnering with local theater companies to present world premieres of 15 one-act plays, August 22-September 22, 2024, in the Genesius Theater at Duquesne University.
The plays were selected from more than 300 submitted earlier this year. Each submitted play was evaluated by readers with expertise in theater, and the 15 to be produced were chosen by the companies from among the highest scorers; the playwrights remain anonymous throughout this process. The playwrights of the plays being presented are from states coast to coast and as far away as Mexico.
Amy Joseph, president of the New Works board, said ina statement, “As a longtime participant and board member, I am excited to launch our 33rd season. Our partner companies have selected some wonderful plays, and it’s always very rewarding to work alongside this team of passionate theater people.”
Each of the five weeks of the Festival will present three new one-act plays:
Program A, August 22-25:
Evie and Frannie Take a Detour by Scott Gibson of Evergreen, Colorado, produced by Stray Cat Theatre Company
They Said, They Said by Brenda Kenworthy of Garden Grove, California, produced by McKeesport Little Theater
I Do?, by F.J. Hartland of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, produced by Glass Fox Productions.
Program B, August 29-September 1
Storm of the Century by Joe Carlisle of Croton on Hudson, N.Y., produced by the Pittsburgh Savoyards
Once Upon a Human by Amy Tofte of Los Angeles, produced by the Red Masquers
Kindergrad by Deanna Sparrow of Slippery Rock, Pa., produced by The Heritage Players.
Program C, September 5-8
Hip Replacement by Stephen LaRocque of Bethesda, Maryland, produced by Prime Stage Theatre
Past Tense by Robert Moulthrop of New York City, produced by The South Hills Players
Unexpected Baggage by Susan Cain McQuilkin of Moorestown, N.J., produced by Iron Horse Theatre Company.
Program D, September 12-15
Happy by Marjorie Williamson of St. Louis, produced by The Summer Company
January by Sara Schreck of New Haven, Conn., produced by R-ACT Theatre Production
Ahmisa by Matt Thekkethala of Austin, Texas, produced by The Bobcat Community Theater
Program E, September 19-22
Check Mate by Cody Goulder of Phoenix, Arizona, produced by Split Stage Productions
Yahweh the Floorwalker by David Haddad of Guanajuato, Mexico, produced by The Jesters’ Guild
Lemon, Water, Sugar, by Barry Eitel of New York City, produced by the Pittsburgh New Works Festival.

Your’s is the second play listed, and in the same style as all the other productions.
