2026-2027 PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh Season Arrives With a Roar

After several weeks of hosting a game of “solve the alliterative clues” on social media, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has revealed its nine-show PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh subscription season for 2026-2027.

The season, with three additional options, all at the Benedum Center, include six winners of the Tony Award for Best Musicalm and four that are new to Pittsburgh.

Disney’s THE LION KING | September 9–27, 2026

Based on the 1994 Walt Disney Animation Studios film, Disney’s THE LION KING features a book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi and direction by Julie Taymor. The Tony Award-winning musical is known for its blend of actors in animal costumes and large-scale puppetry. Its score includes songs by Elton John and Tim Rice from the original film, along with additional music by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Tsidii Le Loka, Julie Taymor, and Hans Zimmer.

HADESTOWN | October 27–November 1, 2026 (Season Option)

Created by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin, HADESTOWN won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The musical intertwines the myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and of Hades and Persephone, taking audiences on a journey to the underworld and back.

THE NOTEBOOK | November 10–15, 2026 (Premiere)

With a book by Bekah Brunstetter and music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson, THE NOTEBOOK is based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. The musical traces the enduring relationship of Allie and Noah across the decades, using three sets of actors to portray the couple at different stages of life, while an older Allie, living with Alzheimer’s disease, hears her husband retell their story.

Dr. Seuss’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! The Musical | November 24–29, 2026 (Season Option)

In this stage adaptation of the Dr. Seuss holiday classic, the Grinch sets out to steal Christmas from the Whos of Whoville, only to discover there is more to the holiday than he expected. Narrated by Max the Dog, the musical features songs including “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas.”


MAYBE HAPPY ENDING | December 29, 2026–January 3, 2027 (Premiere)

Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, MAYBE HAPPY ENDING follows two helper-bots who form an unexpected bond and set out on a journey together. The musical explores questions of love, artificial intelligence, and what it means to make an emotional connection.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s THE SOUND OF MUSIC | January 19–24, 2027

With a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s THE SOUND OF MUSIC tells the story of Maria, a spirited young woman who leaves the convent to become governess to the children of Captain von Trapp. Featuring songs including “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and “Edelweiss,” the musical remains one of the best-known works in the Rodgers & Hammerstein canon.


BEETLEJUICE The Musical | February 5–7, 2027 (Season Option)

With music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King, BEETLEJUICE The Musical is based on the 1988 film. The story follows a recently deceased couple who try to haunt the new residents of their former home and enlist the help of a chaotic bio-exorcist named Beetlejuice. At the center of the story is Lydia, a teenager coping with her mother’s death and her father’s emotional distance.

DEATH BECOMES HER | February 23–28, 2027

With a book by Marco Pennette and music and lyrics by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey, DEATH BECOMES HER is based on the 1992 film about two rivals whose pursuit of youth and beauty takes a darkly comic turn. The musical, centered on women whose feud is fueled by a man and a mysterious potion promising eternal youth, was nominated for nine Tony Awards.

Cameron Mackintosh presents Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA | March 17–28, 2027

First directed by Harold Prince, with musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA remains one of the most enduring titles in musical theater. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s score includes “The Music of the Night,” “All I Ask of You,” “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again,” “Masquerade,” and the title song.

THE OUTSIDERS: A New Musical | April 27–May 2, 2027 (Premiere)

With music and lyrics by Jonathan Clay, Zach Chance, and Justin Levine and a book by Adam Rapp and Justin Levine, THE OUTSIDERS: A New Musical is based on S. E. Hinton’s coming-of-age story. Told from the perspective of Ponyboy Curtis, the musical follows the conflict between the working-class Greasers and the Socs in 1960s Tulsa. The production received 12 Tony Award nominations and won four, including Best Musical.

THE WHO’S TOMMY | May 18–23, 2027

With music and lyrics by Pete Townshend and a book by Townshend and Des McAnuff, THE WHO’S TOMMY follows a boy whose trauma leaves him unresponsive to the world around him until he discovers an extraordinary talent for pinball. Set in post-World War II England, the musical traces Tommy’s journey from isolation to unexpected celebrity. The show is a five-time Tony Award winner.

Individual show tickets go on sale several months prior to each shows opening in Pittsburgh.
