Kinetic Theatre Starting Five: Agatha Christie’s ‘The Murder of Roger Ackroyd’

Fast on the heels of Kinetic Theatre’s Henry Johnson, David Mamet’s contemporary commentary on naivete, manipulation and trust, comes a classic thriller by Agatha Christie with another victim in the title, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

From director Andrew Paul, five things to know before you time travel to the 1920s for the Hercule Poirot mystery:

1. Kinetic has completely flipped around the Carnegie Stage space to create an extraordinarily wide intimate proscenium theater for The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

2.  The ensemble cast of 12 features many of Kinetic’s core artists, including Helena Ruoti, Sheila McKenna, Simon Bradbury, Darren Eliker, James FitzGerald, David Whalen, and Sam Tsoutsouvas as Hercule Poirot.

3. Recent Point Park graduates Mia Laverne, Jandi Linde, and Nai’Ron Arnett have featured roles!

4. The production features an elegant period set by Johnmichael Bohach, with exquisite lighting by Andrew David Ostrowski and costumes by Kimberly Brown.

5. The script is a wonderful new adaptation by Mark Shanahan (A Sherlock Carol) of Agatha Christie’s classic novel, widely considered to be the greatest whodunit ever written.
