Point Park University Exploring establishing a campus in Bradenton, Florida
Officials from both the university and city stressed that discussions remain in the exploratory stage. PPU has commissioned a study to assess demand and determine whether a Bradenton presence would benefit the university, its students and the local community. Point Park President Chris Brussalis said PPU and Bradenton have discussed the potential partnership for about nine months.
Early conversations have centered on PPU’s Conservatory of Performing Arts, but Brussalis said the opportunity could extend across the university, creating new pathways for students to learn, intern and build careers in a growing market.
PPU would not be the only Pittsburgh connection to Bradenton as the Pirates have been holding spring training in Bradenton since 1969.
Before establishing a program in the state, Poinft Park would need approval from the Florida Commission on Higher Education and its accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, .
PITTSBURGH MUSICAL THEATER GETS GRANTS OF $1.25 MILLION
Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s transformation of its 111-year-old West End building into a modern venue for training and productions has received a boost of $1.25 million from the Hillman Foundation and a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant, a reimbursement program that “funds the design, acquisition, and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects that drive employment and community growth.” PMT is in the midst of a $20 million campaign to update and revamp the former school and catering building, at 327 S Main Street, that includes the PMT Conservatory, outdoor West End Canopy, and the 250-seat Gargaro Theater. Accessibility improvements include a long-in-the-planning elevator.
PMT’s annual Broadway at the Overlook is 7 p.m., August 27-30, 2026, at the West End Overlook Park on Marlow Street. Musical selections from the 2026-2027 season include Miss Saigon, Million Dollar Quartet, Matilda, and more. Performers featured in the concert include Alex Manalo, Brecken Newton Farrell, Maya Fullard, Sabina May. Bottom row: Adam Richardson, Taylor Isaac Gray, and Rachel Rosenbush. Performances are free and open to the public.

THEATRE FACTORY SETS INAUGURAL NEW KEN SEASON
The Theatre Factory‘s 31st season and first at at the Aluminum City Arts campus in New Kensington is “all about new beginnings and the fun, surprising, and joyful things that make theater such a special community experience.” The company’s KidWorks season is TBA.

Pittsburgh Opera’s Resident Artist Program is one of the country’s leading training programs for young singers. Over 800 applicants from around the world regularly vie for just a handful of openings. The 2026-2027 Resident Artists are:

After completing advanced education such as graduate degrees, Pittsburgh Opera’s Resident Artists further their careers under the guidance of the opera world’s leaders and innovators. They study languages, diction, movement, and acting while developing their vocal skills, expanding their repertoire, and performing on stage in Pittsburgh Opera productions.In addition to singers, the program includes a Stage Director position and a pianist position.
